A Catholic school with a rich faith tradition, SFA welcomes students of all beliefs. We strive to help each student develop a deep love of God and a habit of prayer. Beginning with the youngest, students come to know God through a variety of experiences. We hope to provide each of our students with an awareness of God’s presence that will invite them to be builders of God’s Kingdom.
Our 1st-8th grade students attend Mass each week at St. Francis Church on Wednesdays @ 8:15a.m.
(Our Kindergarten students begin attending mass in October and JrK begins in January) All students who are members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish should register for the sacraments during school registration or in the parish office in August each year)
Sacraments are celebrated through the child’s home parish. All students who are members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish should register for the sacraments during school registration or in the parish office in August each year.
Our Catholic students celebrate the sacrament of the First Eucharist in the second grade. A copy of the child’sbaptismal certificate is required, along with their registration. Parents must attend two parent meetings, one for First Eucharist and one for First Reconciliation. Attendance at the teaching mass and a Sunday morning retreat are also required for the student receiving this sacrament.
Our Catholic students celebrate First Reconciliation when they are in the second grade. It takes place at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in the fall semester
Our Catholic students receive the sacrament of Confirmation in the eighth grade. The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the process of initiation into the full life of the Catholic Church and both renews and strengthens our baptismal call to live our faith in Christ in our world. Students are required to perform Service Hours, and participate in Eucharistic Adoration. Information on sponsors and Confirmation names will be given during the eighth grade year of preparation by their Religion Teacher. A mandatory retreat for all students receiving the sacrament of Confirmation will be held in the spring. Parents must attend all meetings on Confirmation.
The date for Confirmation is set by the Bishop. The parish notifies all families as soon as we receive the date each year.
Journey to Catholicism
St. Francis of Assisi Parish has a program for children and young adults who want to become Catholic and have not yet celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation or were baptized in another faith. This includes children who missed receiving a sacrament at the usual time or children who, along with their parents, plan to become Catholic. The parish staff, school religion teachers and SFA Religion Coordinator will work together to prepare these students for their sacraments.
